Thanksgiving Food Drive
Please support the Wood Acres Thanksgiving Food Drive, Monday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Nov. 17. Non-perishable food items will be collected at morning drop-off and donated to Bread for the City, a DC-based food pantry that serves an average of 8400 people each month. They support healthy eating at Bread for the City; please see the guidelines below for their requested items.
They encourage HEALTHY, NONPERISHABLE donations, such as:
- Low-sodium or unsalted canned vegetables and beans
- Olive oil
- Dry beans
- Fruit canned in natural juices
- Canned salmon, tuna, sardines, or chicken (especially unsalted and packed in water)
- 100% pure juice
- Whole grain flour and whole grain foods, (plain oatmeal, original Cheerios, etc.)
- Natural peanut butter
- Dry spices (salt free)
- Grocery store gift cards
They DISCOURAGE:
- Canned vegetables and beans that are not labeled low-sodium or unsalted
- Fruit canned in light or heavy syrup
- Highly sweetened cereal (like Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops, Cinnamon Toast Crunch)
They CANNOT ACCEPT:
- Prepared or cooked food
- Ramen noodles
- Macaroni and cheese
- Canned soups that are not labeled low-fat, low-sodium
- Pastry items or candy
- Other highly processed food (Jell-o, cookies)
- Drinks that are highly sweetened (sweetened fruit juice, soda, sports drinks)
