Space Night - This Friday, March 13
This astronomical wonder only comes around every 2 years, and in our opinion, it's THE biennial space event in town.
Space Night 2020 will feature:
- David Ladd, NASA Senior Multimedia Producer, who will be showing some of the ways his team highlights the latest planetary research and science results. He also creates videos for numerous NASA missions and programs, including the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, Lucy, among others.
- An amazing collection of themed rooms created by our very own Wood Acres parents, ranging from celebrating Women in Space & Science (yay International Women's Day!) to exploring Supernova, Meteors, Comets, Gravity, Telescopes, and so much more!
- Planetarium shows, which will be running throughout the evening, so come see what all Wood Acres students experience 6x a year. Seating is limited, so be sure to obtain your ticket when you first arrive. May not be suitable for children under 5, due to the dark nature of the planetarium.
- Design your own rocket and watch it launch in the Kindergarten Courtyard... There's nothing like seeing your creation fly through the air, using some basic household items.
- Do your part and VOTE at Space Night: SHOULD PLUTO BE A PLANET? Cast your vote, and find out at the end of the evening where Pluto stands among the WAES community.
- Commemorative t-shirts, a collectible item, will be available for purchase... new year, new color! Cash or credit card will be accepted.
- A special treat (liquid nitrogen ice cream, anyone?) will be available in the cafeteria, and Potomac Pizza will be available for purchase, as well.
AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE PART OF IT ALL, there's still time to sign up! Both day-of adult volunteers as well as student volunteers for SSL credit are welcome. If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact Merlyn McClure (mgrt333@hotmail.com), or if you're ready to choose a shift, please sign up here:
