Science Fair

Get ready for the Wood Acres Science Fair – once again, we’re going virtual!  Join us on March 25th for a great evening of science fun.  Get your lab coat out! Get your hypotheses lined up!  Start thinking science!  No project is too big or too small and group projects are encouraged.  All grades are welcome!  All projects are welcome!  There is no project too big or too small for the science fair.  Please register here.

Why should we participate in the Science Fair?

You may be asking yourself: My family is so busy, why add the extra burden of a science experiments and one more project?  What’s the point?

Science fair is optional! But its also a really good idea for so many reasons. Sourcing ideas, making a plan, and carrying it out offers so many life skills for our students.  Science fair projects help our children build and practice logical thought processes, they build confidence, and they reinforce the fact that science is fun.  For older children, constructing a hypothesis and researching helps them better understand scientific concepts and processes. The video presentation will also help build communication skills. So, why should you help your kids do a science fair project? Why not!

Need Project Ideas?

How does a virtual science fair work?

Students will record 2-3 minute videos of their projects.  Please note: this is NOT a live event. On the night of the science fair, we will share the link to the compiled videos and will offer a Gregorio’s special – families can watch all of the creativity and genius of our kids while having a pizza party!

Kids can use a trifold board, video their experiment in action or come up with another creative way to present their project.  Kids can also record a video sharing a favorite science topic instead of presenting a science project.   An all-video science fair lets us get creative about what and how we show off our ideas and work! There are also a lot of great video editing apps out there that will make video-creation fun and part the learning.  Every student who enters will receive a Science Fair certificate so they can show everyone how they blinded us with science.

Here are some tips on items to cover in the video presentation:

  • What did you do and what were the results?

  • What did you learn?

  • What materials did you use?

  • Why did you pick this project?

  • Is there anything you would do differently if you did this project again?

  • Older kids (3rd grade and above), can share their hypothesis, what they predicted would happen and what actually happened.

Please use this link to register for the science fair.  The deadline to register and submit videos is March 10th.  We will share separate link to submit videos.
