About The Osceola Sexton Planetarium
The Wood Acres Planetarium was created in 1975 by the parent community at Wood Acres Elementary School. The program is entirely PTA run and funded. All students at Wood Acres visit the Planetarium at least six times a year. If you have any questions, please contact the relevant member of the Planetarium Committee (see below).
Click Planetarium History to read the fascinating story of how Wood Acres Elementary School came to have its own Planetarium.
We currently have over one hundred parent and grandparent volunteers who teach the program to their children's class. No experience or prior knowledge is necessary - just a willingness to reach for the stars! Read what inspires our Planetarium volunteers past and present in Volunteers' Views.
For Current Volunteers
All the classroom materials for volunteers are available on Google Drive. Planetarium volunteers will be given the login and password to access lesson plans and resources. For a quick reference of the curriculum outline go to Lesson Plans.
To check the volunteer schedule, click on the Planetarium Use Calendar.
Training is provided to all volunteers - we introduce you to space and stargazing basics, make sure you are comfortable with the equipment, and assist with fun and age-appropriate teaching tips for your child(res)'s age group. Volunteers will be notified of training opportunities and materials throughout the school year.
